Historic center
![]() The historic center of Tampico has beautiful buildings of French architecture very similar to the ones in the city of New Orleans, US, which reflect the prosperity lived during the times of Porfirio Diaz(1877-1911). It is appointed as Historic due to the fact that it was here where The victory of Tampico of 1829 took place, date on which foreign troops were defeated by the Mexican troops leaded by the Brigadier commander Isidro Barradas marking this point in history as a culminating moment of the Independence movement in Mexico. Due to this important fact the state granted the rank of Heroic City and Port of Tampico on September 11th, 2005. These beautiful buildings accommodated prosperous businesses in the export-import areas throughout the following years. First they were misused, causing them to change their original facades. Thats why in response to the preoccupation of the authorities and private investors, a catalogue of 217 buildings built between the centuries XIX and XX was created, buildings which have a historical and architectonical value this was made through the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) and the National Institute of fine Arts (INBA), organizations which also created the regulations for their rescue. |
