One of the most traditional dishes of the area is the Tampiqueña grilled stake and crabs in a great variety of presentations, crabs are raised in hatcheries in the ocean and are distinctive in Tampico for their delicious taste but you will also find a wide range ofplaces offering international food. Agriculture, Stockbreeding and Fishing The Huasteca region where Tampico is located in the south of Tamaulipas, North of Veracruz andpartiallySan Luis Potosí, is a geographical area where the development of agriculture and stockbreeding take an outstanding role due to its fertile soils and resources. This area farms a wide variety of crops, specially corn, safflower, soy bean, cotton, serrano pepper, onion,watermelon, cantaloupe melon, critics and sugar cane. Regarding stockbreeding, this area has more than 1.2 million cattle heads, and is famous for the breeding of zebu cattle, it outstands in the production of meat and milk as well as for the development of animals for registration. In addition the area offers the breeding of other types of cattle such as Beef Master, Charoláis, Mexican Creole, Santa Gertrudis and Swiss among others. The fishing activity in the area represents an important sourcefor the nutrition of the people and for the creation of jobs. Shrimp is one of the most important species since it has great demand in the market of exportations with the Unites States. Other species also raised here are red snapper, sea bass, oysters, crabs, trout and shark. There is great growing development in hatcheries dedicated to raise shrimp, tilapia fish and lobina. |
